The all-new Tiguan

The Geneva Motor Show was the stage for the new Tiguan’s debut, with VW showing off the technically and visually enhanced all-new Tiguan. The Tiguan is also boasting a European tuned suspension for precise handling, without sacrificing a smooth and comfortable ride. Significant improvements have been made to the fuel efficiency, the interior and they added new color options. It is planned for a release this fall.

The 2012 Tiguan design stands out nicely, with the Volkswagen family design gracing the grill, giving it a modern and sleek look. LED daytime running lights are now available with Bi-Xenons and AFS (advanced headlight system) on SEL models and above. Chrome accentuation abounds, yielding a bolder, more polished look. The taillights have been redesigned, too, with the VW-centric “double L” pattern seen on other, recent VW redesigns.

Inside, all three Tiguan trims get enhancements, with high quality cloth seating in the S, V-Tex leatherette for the SE and the SEL gets leather seating with driver memory in either black or beige.
Efficiency-wise, we don’t have any official numbers, yet, but the 2012 Tiguan is expected to be in the range of 25-29 highway mpg with the award-winning 2.0-liter TSI engine with turbo-charged acceleration.

Great news for South Florida! The Tiguan is one of the best-looking compact SUVs on the road today, and it looks like next year’s model will be even more exciting. The MicroBus, reborn!

Geneva has been kicking out some great news. This time, it is VW’s debut of the all-new Bulli, known as the MicroBus by us Yankees. Born 60 years ago, the VW Microbus took a simple design and made it iconic, just like they did with the Beetle. To this day, people cherish their Microbuses world-wide, so it is exciting news that they are reviving it again (the Microbus saw a single-year rebirth in 2001) and this time they are doing it green. Europe gets it first. There is no release date posted yet for the states.

Though it will be available with a 1.0 liter or 1.4 liter 4-cylinder gas engine, the interesting news here is that it is also available as a EV with a 85 kw motor that produces a remarkable 199 lb-ft of torque. VW claims this allows the Bulli to hit 62 mph in 11.5 seconds and travel at a range of up to 186 miles on a single charge.

There are definite design cues taken from the Microbus, but this time around the Bulli features an edgier design and sharply-creased character lines. The boxy shape also lends to a sense of spaciousness within its compact dimensions. It is 66 inches tall, 68 inches wide and is 156 inches long. The design is further complimented by a modern take on a classic concept – a two-tone paint job.

Front and rear benches provide a comfortable ride for up to six passengers. Though boasting a retro design inside and out, the Bulli is truly state-of-the-art, one look at the Apple iPad mounted in the center console can tell you that. The iPad is designed to serve as a multi-functional touch-screen for vehicle controls. That’s right – it integrates fully with the Bulli’s controls, allowing for entertainment, navigation and hands-free, Blue-tooth connectivity.

VW has reintroduced the Microbus a total of 3 times – once with the 2001 concept, once with the Up! concept, and now with this. Road and Track suggests this is not a “sure thing”, but the German sites we have visited are giving it a release date of 2014. We bet it is going to happen, and something we’d love to see on the South Florida streets.

KBB names Golf Top Family Car

Kelley Blue Book named the 2010 Golf as one of its Top 10 Family Cars in late February. In the annual appraisal, editors of kbb.com recommend what they see as the very best family cars for each year, highlighting the qualifying features and detailing why each is a contender.

In regards to the Golf Kelley Blue Book cited the starting price, the hatchback versatility, the European driving style and the interior that rivals many of the pricier cars. They felt the Golf answered all of the needs of a family, and also threw in some exhilaration and fun.

Editors look over hundreds of entries, analyzing for the aspects that make a good family car- safety, comfort, economy of operation, child-friendliness, reasonable price and good resale value are just to name a few. They believe the Gold is able to provide all of this, plus provide excellent service and a trouble-free ownership for years to come.

The Golf is available in a 2- or 4-door variant, depending on the size of your family. Proven German engineering and performance, coupled with refinement and a great entry level price all lead to a car that isn’t just great for families, but fun to drive, as well.

VW hires SNL comedian Hader

I saw this dude eat a head of lettuce at the fair…so…burn!

Ah, Bill Hader. He’s a comedian that shows up in a lot of indie films that we like, so we are delighted to report Volkswagen has recruited him to make a series of entertaining commercials. Teamed up with Volkswagen specialist Danielle Gumro, the two pair off and explore the wonderful world of the VW brand.

Some of it is pretty funny, like the link above. SNL writer John Mulaney is also on board to help keep the jokes rolling and the smiles cracking.

“There was a real collaboration between Volkswagen and Bill Hader on the set of ‘Inside the VW Academy’ and the unscripted comedy resulted in a unique and interesting format to engage consumers,” said Tim Ellis, Vice President of Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This high quality online entertainment highlights our superior German engineering in a new way and underscores all the value you get when buying a Volkswagen.”

So far, they have done a total of nine bits. These include spots for the 2011 Jetta, Tiguan and Touareg. They are planning on making more, and you can see the whole collection on VW’s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/vw . Check them out, and when you are ready to step into an all new VW, visit our special leases and financing offers page. That new 2011 Jetta will look great in your driveway.

VW redesigns Passat, American-style

The next VW to get a drastic reduction in price is the beloved 2012 Passat. The new Passat, which aims to be the “go-to” car when shopping for a midsize family sedan, will also be the first car to completely be built at VW’s new $1 billion dollar plant in Chattanooga, TN. It is designed precisely to American specifications, and VW expects to win the US’s heart with its new design and economical price tag.

The new Passat features a 4-wheel indie suspension and multilink rear end. It is front-wheel drive, but 4motion may be added in the future if demand persists. An inline 5-cylinder 2.5 liter engine powers the new Passat and delivers 170HP. Other engine options are available, including a diesel variant.

Standard features are bountiful with BlueTooth and dual-zone climate control. Options include remote start, push start and 18-inch wheels.
